BICAN aims to "provide researchers and the public with a comprehensive reference of the diverse cell types in human, mouse, and marmoset brain." The initiative operates through integrated centers, data archives, and a centralized Brain Cell Data Center to facilitate collaborative data sharing across the research community.
The project continues work initiated by BICCN, establishing standardized approaches and best practices for brain cell mapping while developing analytical tools and engaging the broader scientific community.
